Being Captain ! {Sept 09} 
Captains have a considerable responsibility. 
Some aspects of captaincy 
Fulfill Fixtures ! 
They may have to book venues for fixtures 
Possibly collect match monies and pay for venues 
Have a copy of Laws of Chess and be able to interpret the laws at matches 
Resolve disputes 
Devise a policy for team selection and contact members about participating in matches,  
Decide board order 
Organise transport 
Fill in results forms for captains 
Take a copy of HDCA Constitution & Rules to matches and resolve disputes 
Be aware of the rules governing various types of matches {e.g. Handicap / TeamKO} 
Have an up to date Ratings list and take it to all matches 
Understand the ratings system and be able to calculate points start for handicap matches, and be aware of penalties for errors. 
Be aware of penalties for playing ineligible players 
Be aware of penalties for incorrect ratings 
Email results of matches to Secretary within 3 days 
Contact opposing Captains about defaults etc. 
Postpone, rearrange matches when necessary 
Ensure boards sets, clocks, scoresheets are set out for the starting time of matches 
Register new players with estimate / evidence of their playing strengths 
Understand and implement rules about procedure at start of matches
