9... Bxf3
This drags the Queen out to f3, but has never been played. Players wait for the h3 move before Bxf3
9... Bg7 10. Be2 Bxf3 11. Bxf3
I liked this move. If you leave the Bishop on f4 you can't play Bg7 and Nbd7 as the d6 pawn hangs.

Unpositional but has good tactical points ! Interesting stuff from Reg
12... Nf6?!
12... Qb6 When Kev was thinking about the Knight retreat I thought he was considering this move. 13. Qe2 Nf6 14. a5 Qc7 15. f3 is unclear
13. Qd1?
Reg wants to untangle his pieces, but it's time consuming.
13...
13... h5! was the move that I would have played. 14. g5 (14. f3 hxg4 15. fxg4 Nfd7 threat Qh4+, White's K-side look as bare as a baby's ...) (14. gxh5 Nxh5 15. Qd2 Nd7 is advantage Black.) 14... Ng4 is good for Black.
Certainly a natural move but there are problems with this move 1. Black does not have e8 for the Knight retreat from f6 if White plays g5, 2. Black may well want to play the f5 counter.
14... Nbd7 15. g5 Ne8 16. f4 Qe7 17. Qd3 (17. Bd3 f5) 17... f6 18. h4 with a wild middle game brewing.
15. Bd3?!

What should Black play ?
15... Re7?
Black was afraid of Nbd7 because of 16. g5, but it was, in fact, playable. Also Black had Geoff's suggestion of c4!
15... c4! 16. Bc2 Qa5 (16... h5 is still possible.)
(16... Nbd7 is also playable. 17. g5 Nh5 18. Qd2 f6 19. Bd1 fxg5 20. Bxh5 gxh5 21. Bxg5 Bxc3 22. bxc3 Rxe4+=)
17.
15... Nbd7 16. g5 Nh5 17. Be2? Bxc3+ 18. bxc3 Rxe4 adv Black
Black has wasted two tempo.
16... Nbd7 was playable. 17. g5 Ne8 18.
17.
Be2 looked better, but Reg is wanting to play e5 !? and then swing the Rook over to the e or f file.
19... Nxd3 20. Qxd3 Nd7 21. f4?
|
Possible over ambitious, but attacking ! A crucial stage of the game.
21... Qe7
This is not bad, but Qh4! looks better.
21... Qh4 Now it's difficult to find a move for White. 22. g5 Qg4+ 23. Kh1 Qh3 adv Black
22. e5!?

!? Here we go says Reg, Gung Ho !
23... Qh4! 24. f5 with a wild position !
24. Ne4?
24. f5!? Andrew Drabble 24... b5 25. axb6 Nxb6 26. Raa1 (26. Rxa6 Rxa6 27. Qxa6 Qxd6 28. b4)
24. Nd5 looked best for me, and Black is on the defensive.
Kev fiddles while Rome burns. I would not have even considered this move. This pawn is irrelevant !
25... Be5!? 26. Rf2 b5 27. axb6 Nxb6 28. Ra1 Qh4 is really wild in true Modern Benoni style. 29. Bxc5 Qxg4+ 30. Rg2 Bxh2+ 31. Kxh2 Qh4+ 32. Kg1 Nd7 adv Black
25... Bh6 is liked by my computer 26. Rf1 (26. Rf2 Ne5 27. Nf6+ Qxf6 28. Rxf6 Nxd3) 26... Ne5 27. Qd2 Bxe3+ 28. Qxe3 Nxg4
27. Nxc5 b5 28. Nxd7 Qxd7 29. Rae4 Rae8

Typical Reg, but it shouldn't work.
28. Rf3
29. Ng5 Qe8 30. Rf2 Bf6 31. Qxf7+ Qxf7 32. Nxf7 Re8 is winning for Black
29... Nf6 30. Nxf6+ Bxf6 31. Bg5 Bxg5??
This loses.
31... Qd7! is winning. 32. Rxf6 Qxg4+ 33. Kh1 Raf8 Black wins 34. Rf4 Qh3 35. Be7 Qe3 wins
32. Qxf7+??
Reg misses the win !
32. Rxf7!

White wins ! White threatens mate and Black has to sack his Queen.
32... Kh8 33. Qe5+ Bf6 34. Rxf6 Kg7 35. Re6+ Kg8 36. Re7 Qf8 37. d7 Rd8 38. Qe6+ Kh8 39. Re8
32... Kh8
Now Black wins! White has no threats.
