Revised Grades are out !!
Hopefully there are no further amendments
Official YCA Grading List includes all players who have had nine or more games recorded on the system in the last three seasons, including at least one in the most recent season. The season runs from June 1st to end-May following year. Players not meeting this requirement are ungraded, and do not appear.
In this case ungraded players are listed in red using last season's grades / ratings.
Fixture Error:
Note that Holme Valley's first Examiner handicap match {v. Wakefield} was put in error for Wed 22nd September.
This has now been corrected to Tues 21st September {Tues is Holme Valley's home night}. Captains should carefully check through their fixtures and inform me ASAP if any errors are found.

Many years ago, York House in Ossett fielded a club in the Huddersfield League back in the late 70's and through the 80's.
My father and I played for the club which was made up (apart from dad, who set it it up, and me) of lads from York House in wheelchairs - all of them suffering from muscular dystrophy.
The lads went from being stuffed every week to actually being a force to be reckoned with.
Indeed, the English disabled team, when it won the world title back in the mid 80's actually had 3 lads from York House playing in the 6 man team.
Anyway, I digress.
What I would appreciate if you would put out the word for me to try and get hold of ANY scoresheets/game records from anyone who may still have records of their games with these lads.
The names which will feature will be - Umar Hyatt, Ken Moore, Mark Panter, Rob Richmond, Alan Derbyshire, in fact any of the York House games (myself and dad, Terry Thompson, included).

Wakefield Win Sherwood Shield !
7th July the annual Sherwood Shield season curtain raiser was held at West Bretton. This competition is a scratch style game for players graded 130 and under. Mark Shelmerdine writes ...It was a wonderful evening of highly competitive chess. It was great to see everyone looking so well and keen to get on with the game we love after the close season break. We're especially grateful to Alan Holloway who came over to play on his birthday and came away with a strong win. There were excellent performances by our two exciting juniors, Amol and Adash Vani. Dean and Dave continued their excellent form with great wins too. Craig and Bill did the gentlemanly thing and agreed a draw once the match fate was decided. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening of chess was enjoyed by all and even more so for Wakefield ! I'd like to pass my thanks to John Newsome for arranging his team and to all those at Netherton who, as always made us all feel so welcome.
